On 15th September, the 76th anniversary of Jinzhou Medical University (JZMU) & the inauguration ceremony of the statue of Wu Xingmin, the first university president, was held. Wen Deliang, Secretary of the Party Committee of JZMU, Ding Weiguang, President and vice-secretary of the Party Committee of JZMU, and other members of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of JZMU attended the ceremony. Wu Xingmin’s wife, Mrs. Yu Shuqin and her family, Mr. Cui Yanlei, Secretary of Taonan Municipal Committee, and Mr. Gao Xili, Mayor of Jilin sended their VCR for the ceremony. All the teachers and students attended online or offline.
Qu Wei, vice-secretary of the Party Committeeof JZMU, introduced the life story of President Wu Xingmin, to let teachers and students value the contributions of former leaders of the university in their great achievements to people’s liberation and health care. Wen Deliang and Ding Weiguang jointly unveiled the statue of President Wu Xingmin afterwards.
Mrs. Yu Shuqin shot a video to recall President Wu Xingmin’s glorious life and expressed warm congratulations on the 76th anniversary of JZMU on behalf of her family with the best wishes.
Life Story of Wu Xingmin
Wu Xingmin, native of Nanjing Prefecture, Fujian Province, China, was born in Indonesia in 1917. He joined the Red Army of Chinese Workers and Peasants in 1932 and later joined the Communist Youth League of China in 1933. In the same year, he studied in the Military Medical School of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army (the predecessor of China Medical University) for two years. In October 1934, he marched 25,000 miles northward with the main force of the Red Army, during which he worked as a nurse and pharmacist in the division health team, and then as a doctor in the Red Fourth Army. In 1936 he joined the Communist Party of China (CPC). During the War of Liberation, he served as the health minister of Western Liaoning Military Region, Liaoning-Jilin Military Region and Northern Liaoning Military Region. From 1946 to 1948, he served as president of Liaoji Military Region Health School (the predecessor of Jinzhou Medical University). After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he served as director of department of Industrial Hygiene of the Northeast People’s Government, Hygiene Department director of the General Coal Mines Administration in the Central Ministry of Fuel Industry, president of Beijing People’s Hospital and vice-president of Beijing Friendship Hospital. He died in Zhangzhou on 16th April, 1994 at the age of 77.
